n today’s news of October 7, 2009 I read the following stories concerning priests and our Church: A Canadian bishop was arrested at an airport for possession of child pornography. Police later discovered more child porn and sex objects at his home. Lawyers for the Milwaukee archdiocese are in court today arguing that Roman Catholic bishops have the constitutional right to move known pedophile priests from one parish to another. The diocese of Bridgeport, CT lost its fight to keep secret archives on the sexual crimes of its priests locked away in their vaults and must begin a process to reveal that information to the public.

The hush culture of the institutional priesthood is of deep concern to many Catholics. We have learned that some of our most popular and beloved priests built their persona of service and purity to purposely hide a double life involving the sexual abuse of children. Many other priests and bishops knew of these predators and did not report them to the police.
